There are so many factors that must be considered when purchasing a home.  The real value of any property is not the house itself but the location and what the location has to offer.  The school district and school attendance zones should be one of the primary consider actions of the buyer when making a home purchase decision.  This is important for buyers that have family members that will be attending school and buyers that do not.  The buyers that currently do not have family members attending need to consider the schools as it will have a big impact on resale.

Thanks to the effort of the folks at Capital Title, we are pleased to be able to share the 2010-2011 Houston Area School Accountability Ratings report.  This report does a great job of highlighting the specific campuses that fall within the categories of Academically Acceptable; Recognized and Exemplary for the Independent School Districts noted below.

Aldine ISD; Alief ISD; Alvin ISD; Anahuac ISD; Angleton ISD; Barbers Hill ISD; Brazosport  ISD; Channelview ISD; Clear Creek ISD; Cleveland ISD; Columbia-Brazoria ISD; Conroe ISD; Crosby ISD; Cypress-Fairbanks ISD; Damon ISD; Danbury ISD; Dayton ISD; Deer Park ISD; Devers ISD; Dickinson ISD; East Chambers ISD; Fort Bend ISD; Friendswood ISD; Galena Park ISD; Galveston ISD; Goose Creek CISD; Hardin ISD; Hempstead ISD; High Island ISD; Houston ISD; Huffman ISD; Hull-Daisetta ISD; Humble ISD; Katy ISD; Kendleton ISD; Klein ISD; La Marque ISD; La Porte ISD; Lamar CISD; Liberty ISD; Magnolia ISD; Montgomery ISD; Needville ISD; New Caney ISD; North Forest ISD; Pasadena ISD; Pearland ISD; Richards ISD; Royal ISD; Santa Fe ISD; Sheldon ISD; Splendora ISD; Spring ISD; Spring Branch ISD; Stafford ISD; Sweeny ISD; Tarkington ISD; Texas City ISD; Tomball ISD; Waller ISD; Willis ISD.

Condition To Close – USDA, FHA and VA Loans

Remember to have your utilities turned on prior to the appraiser’s arrival for inspections if you are buying a home with a USDA, FHA, or VA loan program.  Verify with your agent or the seller of the property that everything is ready to go to avoid potential delays in the closing process.  Another great tip from your Mission Home Finding agent.

Lisa asks ten questions about where you live and work in Houston #3

Debbie and Earl Dillard

What is your name?  Earl Dillard

What do you do for a living?  I am the co-owner of Fish Window Cleaning along with my wife Debbie Dillard.

What community do you live in?  I live in Woodstream Village in Kingwood, Texas.  We moved here in January of 2011.  We moved here from Bryan College Station where we had lived the past 28 years.

What do you love about living in Woodstream?  I love being close to my family, especially my grandson.  The general feel of this community really stood out for us.  The family atmosphere had everything we were hunting for.  We found a really great home at a great price.

Do you have children that have attended/attend a local school?  Which ones and would you recommend them to your friends?  My children are grown, but my Son in Law, Rex Wolf, graduated from Kingwood High School and now teaches there.  He teaches math focused on Algebra and Calculus.

What do you and your family do for fun where you live?  What kind of activities do you participate in?  I use the Woodstream community pool.  Many times we take our grandchildren and children.  Texas is a great place to explore and our family enjoys camping out. We will select a gathering place and have all of our extend family members from the greater Houston area join us there for a camp out.  One of our favorite places to visit is out West along the Frio River.

Do you participate in an local organizations; volunteer for a non-profit, member of a club or group, volunteer at school or church?  We are members of Woodridge Baptist Church.  The family atmosphere and outreach in the community the Woodridge has really appeals to us.  My wife and I are starting a college age Sunday School class this fall at Woodridge Baptist Church for 18 to 22 year olds.

Do you have a favorite place to shop in Kingwood?  I frequent both Lowes and Home Depot.  I enjoy wandering around the hardware stores on the weekends and look at what is there and find out about projects I might complete.  My wife shops at Stein Mart.  She also likes Sterling Events and comes home with unique gift items for family and friends.

Pete's Burger Sign

Do you have a favorite restaurant in Kingwood?  There is a small local burger place called Pete’s Burgers on loop 494.  They have the best burgers, onion rings and French fries.  I can take my grandson and it is a family friendly place to eat out with kids.

What do you do for a living and how can people find you if needed?  We own our own Window Cleaning Company.  First impressions are very important.  If you own your own business you want your customers to feel welcome when they enter your building and having clean and bright windows helps achieve that.  The same is true if you own your own home, especially if you are trying to sell the property.  We are family owned, local, insured and bonded.  We have a professional cleaning crew.  We can also remove hard water stains and we clean windows both inside and out!  Our services are backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee.  We can provide you a complimentary price quote or schedule services by calling Earl at 281-549-2161 or email at edillard@fishwindowcleaning.com.

Lisa’s ten questions about where you live in Houston

Lisa Dempsey

What is your name?  Lisa Dempsey

What do you do for a living?  I am the co-owner of Mission Home Finding, a local real estate company.

What community do you live in?  I live in Riverchase Village in Kingwood, Texas.

How long have you lived there?  I’ve lived in Riverchase for 7 years, but I have been in Kingwood since 1975.  I have lived in Trailwood, North Woodland Hills, Mills Branch and Greentree Village as well.

What do you love about living in Riverchase?  I love the family feeling.  Everyone is friendly and my son can easily visit his friends on his bike.  The houses are well maintained and everyone takes very good care of their property.  I still love driving home down Kingwood Drive when the sun is setting and seeing the sun beams shine through the canopy of the trees and look out over the golf course and lake.

Do you have children that have attended/attend a local school?  Which ones and would you recommend them to your friends?  I have four children.  Three have graduated from different high schools in our community, Kingwood High, Quest, and Kingwood Park.  It was great having a school that met each of the needs for my children.  My youngest attends Kingwood Montessori.  I would definitely recommend these schools to my friends.

What do you and your family do for fun where you live?  What kind of activities do you participate in?  We love to ride our bikes in East End Park.  It is beautiful there.  People walk their dogs, ride their bikes and even fish in the lake.  We play golf at Deerwood Country Club.   Our favorite thing to do is just have “stay-cations” in our own backyard.

Do you participate in any local organizations; volunteer for a non-profit, member of a club or group, volunteer at school or church?  I am a board member for Twin Visions, a Texas Microboard, for individuals with disabilities.  I also support Including Kids, Inc., a local school for children with developmental disabilities and Autism and Family Time Crisis and Counseling Center.

Do you have a favorite place to shop in Kingwood?  I love to go to Alspaugh’s Hardware on the weekends.  They make popcorn and the kids love to grab a bag to eat as we take care of our shopping list for weekend chores.  They also have Sterling Events so I can watch for goodies for me.

Do you have a favorite Restaurant in Kingwood?  I have several, Raffa’s Waterfront Grill and Chimichurri’s in Kings Harbor are two of them.  Three B’s also has great fish tacos.

What do you do for a living in Kingwood and how can people find you if needed?  I own my own real estate company.  We help people find the right home to match their needs and lifestyle.  We also help people sell their homes so they can make their next move.  I love to help people relocate to our area.  My phone number is 713-898-6909 and my email address is myagent@missionhomefinding.com.
